The ramblings of an Elder Law Attorney

I spent this morning at the Department of Social Services.  I was submitting an application for Medicaid for an elderly woman in a Nursing Home.

We're all living longer.  Our bodies are healthier.  Our minds often go first.  Is it worse when the body goes and you're aware of your failings?

Medicaid is a necessity.  Medicaid is a financial drain on the system.  Both sentences are true.

The poor will and should always qualify....  The middle class can protect little of their assets to qualify...It's actually easier for the upper class to qualify for Medicaid.   Another great accomplishment of George Bush.

Personally,  I don't mind supporting Medicaid with my tax dollars.

By the way, if you're reading this and over 40 years old, long into Lonn Term Care Insurance.  That's my free advise for tonight.

I've been turned down for Long Term Care insurance twice: once because I have lymphedema and the second time because of one of my prescription pain meds (for osteoarthritis). I had better stay healthy.
