Lighthouse

Have you ever visited a lighthouse? If not you owe it to yourself. These are structures, whose sole purpose is to protect people from danger.

They're so serene. They're so peaceful. By the very nature of their location they are beautiful.

My wife and I have visited them all up the Eastern seaboard. Some unfortunately are worn and tired. Many are kept up. The lights still work, although they're all electric now. They have small museums and gift shops. The famous ones, such as Portland Head in Maine, have lovely parkland surrounding them. The light still works and it's still protecting.

My Dad is not well. His body may well be like one of those older lighthouses, but to me he will always be like Portland Head, forever there to protect his family.

Aren't they great? My wife and I often plan our vacations around them. They each seem to have their own distinct characteristics and personality.

I'm a fan of the Cape Neddick "Nubble" Lighthouse in York, Maine..... :) It's cute!

One of my favorites.

The homemade ice cream parlor up the hill doesn't hurt it's appeal either.

I'm a firm believer that if it weren't for the Red Sox, New England would be the best place in the world.
