Question

What do you do?

A young couple with a child in a stroller get on the subway. He's clean and well spoken. He makes a polite plea to the passangers asking for money. He states that he doesn't have a job and must feed his family. He is wearing $200.00 sneakers.

Do you give?

I feel it necessary to point out that I got a $200 vest from Nordstrom with the tags still attached at Value Village for $10. Also, I own a "Dooney & Bourke" purse that "retails" at a few hundred dollars, but it's a knockoff I got at a consignment shop for $5. No one has known the difference. I own designer jeans that sell for $100-$150 from Value Village, bought for $3-$8. I make a point to always look well dressed, but most of my outfits cost me under $30, from hat to shoes.

He also could have bought the shoes or received them as a present before losing his job, and they don't have as much value once someone else has worn them so he couldn't return/sell them.

Well, thanks :) I just know how it is to have no money but still want to look nice, so I can relate.
