September 11, 2008- a Day of Reflection

I am an American first and a New Yorker second. For today those are the only characterizations that I want. Today is a day, that I am not a Democrat, I am not a Liberal, for today I will live by the adage "the sum total of what unites us, is greater then what divides us."

Seven years ago today, I was driving in my car, going to a Real Estate closing, when the United States was attacked. It was not an inside job. We were not in on any conspiricy.
Subsequent to that date, for a short time we united. The only label that we accepted was American.

Today I vow, that I will not knock the President, I will not criticize the congress, but I will reflect on what it means to be an American. I may choose to read about Franklin or Lincoln or Thurgood Marshall or Eleanor Roosevelt. People who helped make this country great.

I am also a New Yorker. I love this city and I took the attacks personally. One of my great thrills is walking Fifth Avenue from the Library to the Guggenheim. Today I may make that walk, all the time reflecting on this country and this city.
