Executive Orders

I was thinking about what executive orders President Obama might reverse. I came upon a recent article in Slate Magazine addressing that issue. http://www.slate.com/id/2200774/

Below are some of their thoughts, with one of mine added in.

President Bush, in one of his first acts as President, on January 22, 2001, issued an executive order known as the 'Abortion gag rule." The effect of this order was to explicitly scrap the Clinton Administration's policy of funding international nongovernmental organizations that offer abortion counseling.

In August, 2001 he issued a Federal Order limiting embryonic stem cell research to existing colonies.

July 20, 2007. Executive order allowing the CIA to use certain types of coercive interrogation techniques. "The order isn't explicit about which practices it allows—that remains classified—but it may still sidestep the protections in the Geneva Convention against humiliating and degrading treatment."

March 25, 2003. Sidestepping the constitution by expanding the powers of the VP allowing him to classify any documents he wishes.

December 12, 2002. Faith based groups can take Federal funds while refusing to hire people who aren't of their faith.

Oh, my! I look forward to the reversal of all this, and the protections reinstated for our beautiful environment, the return of protection for parks and regulations on pollution.

What has been allowed in the realm of torture is beyond all imagining. Of course, we have all been tortured by this administration, and perhaps it took something so horrible to give us the backlash that would lead to the election of the man we now have. Obama will be busy and he is young. He has the stamina to correct all the damage that has been done. May it begin NOW!!

Bush said he had a mandate when he did not. Obama does. His win is huge. It is time for the healing and corrections to begin.

I just picked the most blatant examples.
