My letter to the President Elect

For only the third time in my life, I have written to an elected official. Below is my letter to President Elect Obama.

Dear President Elect Obama:

May I first express my heartfelt congratulations and hope for our future. For the first time in my 51 years, I am excited about the future of my country. Both yours and Mrs. Obama have voices that I respect and believe will properly represent our country on the world stage. I know that you will make us proud.

I also know that fiscally and realistically it is impossible to complete all of your agenda. What I would like to see is a reversal of some of the Bush Executive Orders. Including, but not limited to the following:

President Bush, in one of his first acts as President, on January 22, 2001, issued an executive order known as the “Abortion gag rule." The effect of this order was to explicitly scrap the Clinton Administration's policy of funding international nongovernmental organizations that offer abortion counseling.

In August, 2001 he issued a Federal Order limiting embryonic stem cell research to existing colonies. These colonies if not used for research will be discarded. I am afflicted with Parkinson's disease. There may not be enough time to help me, but there is great hope for others.

July 20, 2007. Executive order allowing the CIA to use certain types of coercive interrogation techniques. "The order isn't explicit about which practices it allows—that remains classified—but it may still sidestep the protections in the Geneva Convention against humiliating and degrading treatment."

March 25, 2003. Sidestepping the constitution by expanding the powers of the VP allowing him to classify any documents he wishes.

December 12, 2002. Faith based groups can take Federal funds while refusing to hire people who aren't of their faith.

You have demonstrated a great knowledge and respect for our Constitution. I have great faith in you and optimism for our future.
